June Burpee Challenge: Building Mental Toughness One Rep at a Time

This June, CrossFit Reckoning is taking on a challenge centered around one of CrossFit's most iconic movements: the burpee.

The June Burpee Challenge isn't just about fitness — it's about developing mental toughness, learning how to pace yourself, and staying composed when things get uncomfortable.

The Challenge

The setup is simple:

Every minute for 12 minutes (EMOM 12):
45 seconds of max burpees over a bar
15 seconds of rest

Score = total burpees completed across all 12 rounds.
*Burpees are lateral, not bar-facing.

How It Works

We'll complete a Baseline Test on June 3, then retest during the week of June 22 to measure improvement and see how consistency and smart pacing pay off.

The athletes who perform best won't necessarily be the fastest. Success in this challenge comes from finding a sustainable pace, minimizing unnecessary rest, and maintaining output throughout all 12 minutes. The goal is to stay steady early, stay focused in the middle, and finish strong in the final rounds.

Throughout June, you'll see additional burpee-focused conditioning pieces and optional workouts woven into our programming, all designed to help improve your capacity and your confidence under the bar.

Whether you're chasing a new fitness goal, looking to improve your engine, or simply want to challenge yourself mentally, this month's challenge is an opportunity to prove what you're capable of.

Why Burpees, Why Now

Burpees are the great equalizer. No equipment trick saves you. No technique loophole bails you out. Every rep is a small negotiation between your lungs, your legs, and your brain — and the rep count at the end is an honest answer to one question: how composed were you when it got hard?

That's the muscle we're really training this month.

How to Win the Challenge

Track your progress. Trust the process. Stay consistent.

Show up to the Baseline Test on June 3. Show up to the workouts in between. Show up to the retest the week of June 22. The number on the board will go up — and so will your tolerance for the kind of hard that builds real fitness.
